Body Image

After watching today's episode of 106 & Park, I started really thinking about body image and how much the media affects us as women. We strive so hard to look like these models, singers, or actresses and to be 'perfect' but why? Because we have such tainted images and definitions of what beauty is, a lot of us are hurting ourselves by dangerous dieting, undergoing surgeries to fix what we don't like, and we exercise to an alarming extent. My best friend of seven years has been talking about how much she wants liposuction, a tummy tuck, a breast lift, and all other kinds of procedures for the past three years and it baffles me. I asked her countless times why she wants all this stuff and she barely has a valid argument. I honestly think she saw some celebrity and is trying to imitate what she saw. She's striving towards perfect but that's impossible. No one is perfect and I wish people would understand that. She's even confessed to me that she's jealous of me because I'm light-skinned. I think its absolutely absurd for her to be jealous of me because of my skin color. She's what society would say is 'dark skinned' but I love her color. She's constantly saying she's 'black' but I don't see it. I love her brown complexion and the way she looks and I wish she would learn to love herself the way she is.

I've dealt with body image issues my whole life. I've never been fully satisfied with the way I look but I accept what I can't change and work to fix what I can. I wish I had long flowing hair but I don't. Even with all the different ethnicities in my family, I still have 'black hair'. When I was younger I used to get teased because my hair was so thick and coarse and having a mother who's a tomboy didn't help either. I kept my hair in braids for majority of a life and didn't learn how to properly take care of it until I was 15. Now my top priority is making sure my hair is healthy. I never liked my weight either. It's been up and down for as long as I can remember and I initially joined the track team in high school in hopes of losing weight. I was put through rigorous training six days a week, three hours a day. I stole diet pills like Xenadrine Ultra and took them all the time. I ate about two or maybe even one meal a day because I wanted my body to be 'perfect'. There have been so many times where I cried myself to sleep because I hated myself.

But hate gets you nowhere. I've learned to love myself the way I am and accept the fact that I'll never be a size 2. I love my hips, lips, thighs, skin, hair, breasts and butt. There's always room for improvement so exercise is a must but I don't overdue do it. Women, we must learn to love ourselves and stop striving to reach these unattainable goals. Most of us will never be Beyonce, Amber Rose, Alicia Keys, or whoever. We have to love what God blessed us with and learn to work it because we are fabulous in our own right.

Loso's Way Album Review

Just like I thought, this album is incredible. My baby Fabolous really took his time, recollected himself, and gave us a classic album. "Loso's Way" is full of enticing beats and hot lyrics and is his most personal album to date. A few of my personal favorites on the album are "I Miss My Love," "Stay" featuring the incredibly talented Marsha Ambrosius, "Last Time" featuring my other love Trey Songz, "I'mma Do It" featuring Kobe (no, not Kobe Bryant) and "Salute" featuring Lil' Wayne.

"Stay" has been stuck in my head all day. On the track Fabolous is telling how his father left him and how he wasn't much of a father to him. He also mentions his son, who he affectionally calls Joso. He tells of the precious moments he has with his son and how he doesn't have time for the industry's drama.

"Salute" is a certified banger. "Your highest title, numero uno, I'm not that little pregnant white girl but Juno..." I wanted to die when I heard that line. Fab went so hard on his verse and Wayne did his thing too but Fab owned this track. Wayne didn't say anything memorable on the track and his verse was kind of blah to me. The chorus was stuck in my head after I heard this song though. This is the type of track that you roll down your windows and bump in the car.

"Everything, Everyday, Everywhere" is another one of my favorites. It's Fab's newest single and everytime I hear it I wanna dance. It's definitely one of those songs that'll get your hips moving in the club. (If you haven't heard it or seen the video, I posted it down below)

I'm glad I decided to buy "Loso's Way" because it didn't disappoint me at all. I wish the "Throw it in the Bag" remix with Drake would've been on the album but its all good. You can definitely listen to this from start to finish without skipping anything. This album is well worth your money so go buy it, don't download it. And also don't forget to check out the movie with the same name as the album. Fabolous just put pressure on a lot of rappers to step their game up.

"Run This Town" the new joint by Jay-Z, Rihanna, and Kanye West is killing the radio right now. I absolutely, positively LOVE this song. Everyone did their thing on this song but Kanye went in on his verse. This song goes so hard and this is one of those songs that would be amazing to see performed in concert. I can only imagine what the vibe will be like when this is performed live. Rihanna sounds good on this record and I can't stop saying "heeeeyyyyyyyy!" If you haven't heard it, take a listen.

Finally! Big Sean finally released his first video for his single "Getcha Some" and I'm so effin happy. I love Big Sean's sexy self and I love the video. And of course Kanye makes an appearance in the video. Everyone knows (or should know) that Ms. Whitney Houston is on the verge of a comeback with her new album, I Look To You, which will be in stores on Sept. 1st. I'm so happy to see her back to her old self. She's looking beautiful these days and I know this record is going to be huge.

My favorite singer, Ms. Alicia Keys along with her boo Swizz Beats produced a couple songs on the album. I've been dying to hear new music from Alicia and she's pissing me off because she hasn't put out anything on yet. Hmmph =/

He's been by Whitney's side through all the trials and tribulations in her life and he's such a prominent figure in the music industry. I gave in and watched the MJ memorial service. I caught it right after J. Hud performed and I was fine until Usher touched the casket. I don't know why but after that, everything was making me cry. When Jermaine sang "Smile" I wanted to hug him. He looked so heartbroken and I hate seeing people in so much pain. But the real tear jerker came when Paris, MJ's daughter, spoke. She truly broke my heart. My prayers go out to the Jackson family, especially those kids.

Fuck. I'm a wreck right now. The fact that he's not here anymore didn't hit me until this very moment. As an artist myself, Michael Jackson was a big influence. I remember the first time I saw the "Thriller" video. I was in third grade and my teacher showed it to us in class. Me and my best friend Kenneth were scared shitless in the back of the classroom. I refused to watch that video until I was about fifteen. I remember learning the dances to "Remember the Time" and "Beat It" I thought I was the shit lol

But I truly fell in love with MJ when I heard "P.Y.T"..that was my JAM. That is the one MJ song that I just have to sing. There's no other option when that song is on. And then the video for "Scream" with Janet? What?! I knew I wanted to be an entertainer from that moment.

I don't want to remember the bad times or anything negative related to Michael. I'm just gonna remember all the good about him, jam out to "P.Y.T" and smile because I know he's finally free from all the pain, the hurt, the drama.
